Having Your Own Back

Often harder than saying No, is sticking to it – especially when we receive pushback (begging, downplaying, questioning, or guilting). It’s so natural to prioritize connection, but at the cost of disconnecting from ourselves, it’s not worth it in the long run.

That’s why the final step of the GATES Method is Steward your precious resources. We only have so much time, energy, attention (etc) to give – we have to treat these as valuable as any other finite asset (think: diamonds, gold, clean water), so that we have enough to share with the people and projects we care most about.

Plus, the more consistently we manage our resources responsibly and uphold our boundaries respectfully, the more trust and safety we build in our relationships – with others as well as ourselves!
